49th EUCEN Conference in Mainz (2017)

ULLL AND THE LABOUR MARKET IN EUROPE – THE CONTRIBUTION OF CONTINUING EDUCATION AND VOCATIONAL EDUCATION TO THE CHALLENGES OF CHANGING WORK AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

University of Mainz, Germany, Wednesday 07–Friday 09 June 2017

The EUCEN Conference in 2017 took place in Mainz / Germany and discussed the different European models of Continuing Education and Vocational Education Training as contributions for the challenges of the labour market. The changes on the European labor market require to establish stronger links between the dual vocational education and training system and institutes of higher education. To improve the integration into vocational training through basic skills and permeability the higher education system has to be opened up for new target groups. Therefore also new flexible study formats have to be offered which are appropriate for students working beside studies. German HE institutions (universities of applied sciences and universities) have also a lot of experience in dual studies – a specifi c model which could possibly be an inspiration for a European model.
